MAMBURAO, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – One hundred six (106) jobseekers were Hired-on-the-Spot (HOTS) during the face-to-face Arawatan Jobs Fair held at Capitol Training Center on 12 November 2022.

This activity was hosted by the Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro through their Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in partnership with DOLE MIMAROPA in celebration of the Arawatan Festival or the 72nd Founding Anniversary of the province.

The successful HOTS applicants will be starting their careers in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Saudi Arabia after hurdling the one-day hiring process.

Among the top local occupations landed by the jobseekers are production operators from local employment, and household service workers from overseas vacancies.

During the opening of the program, Provincial PESO Manager Mr. Andres V. Castillo expressed his gratitude to the participating employers and congratulated all the jobseekers, and encourages them to make the most of this opportunity in finding the right job for them, β€œWe bring you this job fair since we want to help you to reduce your cost, time, and effort in finding jobs”, he said.

On the other hand, DOLE Occidental Mindoro Field Office Head Mr. Peter James D. Cortazar, in his message, said, β€œJob fairs are opportunities for both employers and employees to form new partnerships, it is like speed dating for recruiting because, at the set time and place, companies and job seekers try to find out if they will match. Employment and other opportunities provided through jobs fairs are crucial to economic growth and reduction of poverty, and job fairs, therefore, are not just another convention but are signs of hope, particularly for the job seekers who are ready to enter the world of work.”

The one-day job fair showcased 8 participating employers from public office, private local, and overseas employment opening a total of 3,000 vacancies.
Participating employers include Earthsmart Human Resources Philippines, 1st Northern International Placement Inc., Megatrend Workforce Management, LRC Manpower Services Internationale, Lead Resources Management Corp, and PKIMT. Joining also for the government hiring are the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Philippine Army.

Michelle Ann Bunyi, 23, from Dungon, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, is one of the lucky applicants who was hired on the spot. She said that she came to know of the event when she saw the announcement on the social media account of Provincial PESO. She immediately prepared her resume and tried to apply as a production operator; she was hired after the interview and is expected to start her job immediately in Batangas.

β€œI am very fortunate to be hired on the spot even though I have no work experience”, added Bunyi.

Same luck also welcomed Gloria Azurin, 30, from Santa Cruz who was also rehired as Household Service Worker in Saudi Arabia.

A total of 133 job applicants registered on the day they attended the event.

About 119 applicants were qualified both for local jobs and overseas work, meeting the minimum requirements for the vacancies they applied for.

Meanwhile, 8 near-hires are reported who were considered hired but still need to submit additional requirements or may need to attend further interviews or tests.

The event also served as an opportunity for all job seekers to register and become members of the SSS, and PhilHealth.

The said activity is part of the Provincial Government Office and PESO’s employment facilitation strategy that aims to fast-track the meeting of its local jobseekers and the participating employers and overseas recruitment agencies in one venue to reduce the cost, time, and effort on the part of the applicants.
