CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO โ€“ The Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA through its Technical Service Support Division (TSSD) facilitated the quarterly meeting of the Regional Council Against Child Labor (RCACL) on 21 October 2022 at Filipiniana Hotel, Calapan City, Or. Mindoro.

Aside from DOLE, attending the meeting were 11 other government agencies, 2 employers sector representatives and 1 NGO, these were:

    • Department of Education
    • Department of Agriculture
    • Department of Environment and Natural Resources
    • Philippine National Police
    • Department of Justice
    • Philippine Information Agency
    • Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
    • Philippine Statistics Authority
    • National Youth Commission
    • Rio Tuba Nickel Workers Union
    • Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc.
  • Stairway Foundation Inc.

During the meeting, two resolutions were adopted by the body and discussed by TSSD Chief Philip D. Ruga and Atty. Shirley Marie C. Quiรฑones, Senior LEO. The first was regarding the inclusion of sectoral representatives like the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc., Rio Tuba Nickel Workers Union and the Stairway Foundation Inc. as members of the council. The second resolution covered the details of the data collaboration for all the members of the council.

Also discussed were the specific duties and responsibilities of the members of the council by Ms. Maureen R. Alva, Community Facilitator; and DOLEโ€™s accomplishments as of September 2022 by Regional Alternate CLPEP Focal Person Mr. Kim Neko C. Baรฑa.

โ€œWe thank you for attending this meeting and in giving your commitment in eliminating child labor in our region. As November is approaching and it will be the National Childrenโ€™s Month and we encourage you (partner agencies) to join in celebrating this advocacy through your own programs in the fight against child laborโ€, DOLE Regional Director Naomi Lyn C. Abellana said during his message.

The Regional Council Against Child Labor aims to remove children from child labor particularly in its worst forms in MIMAROPA Region. The program contributes to the Philippine Program Against Child Labor of the national government interventions for eliminating or preventing child labor by promoting, child-focused actions, rights-based approach, results-based management, gender-responsiveness, cultural sensitivity, sustainable development, children and youth participation, good governance, decent work for all, community development, inter-agency, tripartite and multi-sectoral collaboration.
