23 construction workers assigned in Tablas Island, Province of Romblon, were engaged to dig ditches and prepare the cable line of a telecommunications company. However, their work was prematurely terminated last January 2021.
On February 01, 2021, the workers sought assistance on their separation and holiday pay claims at the DOLE Romblon Field Office. The case was docketed for conciliation-mediation under the DOLE Single-Entry Approach program (SEnA).
DOLE MIMAROPA SENA Desk Officer, Ms. Christine M. Espinosa, facilitated the request for assistance of the workers. Conferences were done with the representative the employer. After three (3) mediation conferences, both the workers and the employer agreed to a settlement amounting to Php111,885.00 benefitting the 23 workers. Holiday Pay settlement of Php23,600.00 was paid on February 24, 2021 and the Separation Pay settlement of Php88,285.00 was paid on March 15, 2021.
The employees extended gratitude to the Department for the fast and efficient handling of their concern.
