With its archipelagic set up, it is really challenging for MIMAROPAns to travel outside its provinces especially for those who are working in Manila.

Danilo M. Mendoza, a 25 years old resident of Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro, ventured to work in Manila for high salary consideration.

He worked as soil tester for five years in a testing laboratory company in Manila. However, due to misunderstanding circumstances on filing of leave, he was terminated along with his six co-workers.

Having no means of livelihood, they decided to go back to their home province without receiving any separation pay from the company.

Danilo learned about the Single-Entry Approach (SEnA) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), thus he and his fellow affected workers proceeded to file for request for assistance (RFA) as the requesting party.

The RFA was facilitated through a telephone coordination with the responding party; the company expressed its willingness to settle the issue brought by Danilo.

With fast and courteous assistance of DOLE SEnA desk officer, separation pay for the requesting party was granted on 19 January 2021 ranging from 7,000.00 – 69,810.00 with the total amount of P174,096.00.

(I want to say thank you to DOLE for helping us received our separation pay despite the fact that our employer is located in Manila. It would be very difficult for us to proceed to Manila because of the high cost of transportation fare brought by this pandemic. We will use the money that we received to look for another job to support our family).

Provincial Diretor Roderick F. Tamacay, representing DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Diretor Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao, responded that it is an honor for department to serve our public and said, “We are really flattered each time our clients are satisfied with our service. Moreover, it’s good to know that our employers, in the interest of social justice and out of compassion, despite having incurred huge losses are still able to honor its obligation to the workers. We acknowledge also the dedication of our staff in employing out of the box strategies in order for both parties to come in to agreement.”

For the first half of January 2021, DOLE Oriental Mindoro was able to secure through settlement the total amount of Php371,967.67 benefitting 17 affected workers.

SEnA is an administrative approach that provides speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedure for all issues or complaints arising from employer-employee relations.
