MAMBURAO, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – On August 24-25, 2021, DOLE MIMAROPA through the Occidental Mindoro Field Office conducted a Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) cum Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) at the Session Hall of Brgy. San Luis, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

As the community starts to recover from the pandemic, entrepreneurs play a critical role in boosting economic growth and development. Though some might possess the skills, most still needs more polishing, education, and training.

A total of 30 participants, mainly officers, from two workers’ association namely Kalasag at Tagapagtaguyod ng Repormang Panlipunan Association – MAPSA (KATROPA) and Tangkalan San Luis TODA, Inc., had undergone development and upgrading of their capabilities in the areas of leadership, organizational development and management, labor and human relations, grievance handling, labor laws, occupational safety and health, productivity, and COVID-19 prevention in the workplace.

DOLE also conducted the Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT), which aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial and capacities of DOLE livelihood beneficiaries through instituting improvements that would lead them to productivity enhancement and working conditions improvement. The training team used a different learning approach aside from the usual to make the training more interactive and somehow enable the participants to learn through reflection.

The topics discussed are: Vision and Mission, Goals and Objective Setting, Values Formation, Management Operations, Marketing, Production and Financial Management/ Simple Bookkeeping, Labor relations, General Labor Standards, Productivity, and Occupational Safety and Health Standards. Workshops on production, marketing and financial aspects were also carried out during the activity.

Maraming salamat po sa DOLE sa buong suporta ninyo sa amin lalo na po ngayon na mas kailangan namin ang suporta ng gobyerno” (This training is a great help to all of us because it has increased our knowledge on how to improve our livelihoods. We are indeed grateful to DOLE for your full support to us, especially now that we need the government’s support more.) said Mr. Corpuz, chairman of KATROPA.

DOLE OccMin Field Office Head Bernardo B. Toriano stressed the significance of strengthening the workers’ organization and their entrepreneurial skills in enhancing the individual and organizational incomes, improve the standards of living, income opportunities, and employment generation. He also encouraged the associations to be transparent, develop trust, and have good communication to sustain their livelihood so they could avail themselves of another possible grant.

Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) provides an opportunity for systemic learning and growth aiming at greater productivity, prosperity and welfare to the workers’ organization and its members and their dependents. WODP focuses on developing the capabilities of the workers and their organization to be able to perform their roles effectively and efficiently toward the promotion of workers’ empowerment and sound labor-management relations. Also, it provides educational opportunities to  officers and members including their dependents for self-development, growth and be effective change agent in their organization and in their personal life.
