ABRA DE ILOG, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – The Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA through its Occidental Mindoro Field Office, conducted a Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) and Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) for members of DOLE registered workers’ associations at the Municipal Sports Complex of LGU Abra de Ilog on 01-05 June 2021.

Strictly following the safety and health protocols, the two batches of 87 participants, composed mainly of the officers of 29 workers’ association underwent developmental training aimed to upgrade their capabilities in the areas of leadership, organizational development and management, labor and human relations, grievance handling, labor laws, occupational safety and health, productivity, and COVID-19 Prevention in the workplace.

Aside from promoting their capabilities as partners in the national development, Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) was also conducted. This training aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial and capacities of DOLE livelihood beneficiaries through instituting improvements that would enhance their productivity and improve their working conditions.

The DOLE training team used a more interactive approach instead of the usual traditional seminar to enable the participants to have more hands-on learning. The topics discussed were: setting of the associations’ Vision and Mission, Goals and Objective, Values Formation, Management Operations, Marketing, Production and Financial Management/ Simple Bookkeeping, Labor relations, General Labor Standards, Productivity, and Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

DOLE OccMin Field Office Head Bernardo B. Toriano stressed the significance of strengthening the workers’ organization and their entrepreneurial skills in enhancing the individual and organizational incomes, improve the standards of living, income opportunities, and employment generation. “To sustain our enterprises, we should innovate and continuously learn business tactics. Let us not forget that the primary ingredient of an organization is the human resources, who, aside from management functions, must also need to develop their communication skills to make their ventures run smoothly.”, Chief Toriano said.

Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) provides an opportunity for systemic learning and growth aiming at greater productivity, prosperity and welfare to the workers’ organization and its members and their dependents. WODP focuses on developing the capabilities of the workers and their organization to be able to perform their roles effectively and efficiently toward the promotion of workers’ empowerment and sound labor-management relations. Also, it provides educational opportunities to  officers and members including their dependents for self-development, growth and be effective change agent in their organization and in their personal life.
