PUERTO GALERA, ORIENTAL MINDORO – On 20 August 2021, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA through its Oriental Mindoro Field Office awarded Php934,500.00 to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Puerto Galera as Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) for the implementation of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) benefitting 267 displaced workers due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Beneficiaries will be engaged in social community projects for ten (10) days, such as disinfection, debris clearing, de-clogging of canals, debris segregation and materials recovery, stockpiling, and clearing the basic repair of public infrastructures. At the end of the program, they will receive the total amount of Php3,200.00 or Php320.00/day equivalent to prevailing minimum wage in MIMAROPA region. Beneficiaries will also be provided with basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as caps, long sleeves, face masks and face shields and will be enrolled in Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) under Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) for insurance coverage.

Aside from the awarding, workers were oriented on reportorial documents to be submitted for processing of salaries and the strict observance of existing health standards like wearing of face masks and face shields, observing social distancing, disinfecting/washing hands to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Also, their work is being limited to 4 hours per day to reduce exposure.

Puerto Galera Municipal Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan expressed his gratitude for the livelihood assistance of national government to its constituents specially those displaced workers in the tourism sector who were deeply affected by the pandemic. He lauded the department’s continuous efforts of providing livelihood programs to vulnerable sectors to have their means of decent source of income in this trying times.

In his message, DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Atty. Joffrey M. Suyao said “Kami po ay nagpapasalamat sa pakikipagtulungan ng LGU Puerto Galera upang maipaabot ang aming programang TUPAD para sa mga nadisplaced na informal workers natin dito. Ito ay tulong nga ating pamahalaan para sa mga kababayan natin sa ating pagbangon sa nangyayaring pandemya.” (The department thanks LGU Puerto Galera for their assistance in the implementation of our TUPAD to our displaced informal workers. This program serves as a rehabilitation measure of the government for the recovery of the country from COVID 19.)

Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers or TUPAD is under DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) of the Department of Labor and Employment that provides temporary wage employment to the workers in the informal sector who were displaced or whose earnings were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
