BRGY. MALIGAYA, BOAC, MARINDUQUE – The DOLE Marinduque Field Office joined the celebration of National Children’s Month last 24 November 2021 at Barangay Maligaya, Boac, Marinduque. With this year’s theme “New Normal Na Walang Iwanan: Karapatan ng Bawat Bata ang Tutukan!”, the said activity aims to promote the protection of all children and their rights amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The activity was attended by seventy-eight (78) including Child Laborers or Child at risk, parents of child laborers from Brgy. Maligaya, Provincial PESO of Marinduque, LGU Boac representatives, Barangay Officials, DepEd, MSWDO, Boac Law Enforcement and Health Personnel.

Marinduque Governor Presbitero Jose Velasco Jr. expressed his gratitude to the Department for their huge contribution in mitigating the child labor cases in the province. It is the responsibility of every parent to protect their children’s right until they are old enough to make their own way in the world, the local government has a vital role especially in nation building for the protection of the future of these children”, he said.

Moreover, our partner agencies led by Ms. Hazel Maureen Gonzales – MSWD Social Welfare Officer, Mr. Pablo A. Alcober – DepEd Public School District Supervisor, Dra. Gilda Calachan – OIC of MHO Boac and Ms. Eleonor N. Adlawan – Municipal Executive Senior Police Officer discussed the Laws and Rights of the children and their respective programs as their commitment in supporting the advocacy against child labor.

Representing DOLE MARINDUQUE is Mr. Ken Aldrin Jalac. In his message, he said “We strongly believe on the progress of our children, with our coordinated effort we are giving them opportunities to join various activities and allow them to have different avenues in order for them to learn, grow, and build their full potential”. He also asked for parents’ and guardians’ support and cooperation in fulfilling the needs of every child as they pledged for a strong commitment to pursue projects and activities such as these.

The month of November is the month for celebration of the National Children’s Month 2021 pursuant to Republic Act No. 10661, series of 2015 an act declaring November of every year as National Children’s Month. Since 2018, DOLE has been conducting a nationwide child labor profiling activity to identify child laborers in each area, and assess both personal and needs of the child’s family. As the lead agency of the National Council against Child Labor (NCAL), the Department has been firm in upholding the rights of the children. On its flagship program for children aimed towards removing them from child labor, the Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP), the Department aims to increase the protection for working child and to remove children engaging in child labor especially in its worst forms.
