ORIENTAL MINDORO – On August 26, 2021, the Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA thru its Oriental Mindoro Field Office (DOLE OrMin), and in partnership with the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity MIMAROPA (RTWPB MIMAROPA) conducted a free webinar via Zoom on Labor Relations, Human Relations and Productivity (LHP) to seventy-nine (79) participants from Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Oriental Mindoro.
Oftentimes, lack of awareness and due process leads to labor disputes and disruption of industrial peace. With these efforts, the department hopes to educate both the employees and management side on the employer and worker’s rights.
With the use of virtual meeting platform, DOLE OrMin was able to provide participants (who are mostly owners, managers and human resource personnel of MSMEs) a better and clear understanding of matters that affects labor-management relations, cooperation, and work productivity.
DOLE OrMin Field Office Head Roderick F. Tamacay welcomed and thanked the participants for attending the virtual session. He points out the importance of sound labor-management relations in maintaining harmonious relationship that contributes to the productivity of employees. “At the heart of labor relations is the desire of both management and labor to create an efficient and effective organization. When labor relations and human relations in an organization are good and healthy, expect the increase in productivity” FO Head Tamacay said.
During the morning session, Mr. Edralin B. Magcalayo, DOLE Ormin Senior Labor and Employment Officer, discussed the topics on labor relations particularly Book VI of the Labor Code or the Post-Employment rights of management and workers, while Mr. Francisco S. Sales III, Labor and Employment Officer III, discussed the human relations at work which focuses on the worker’s behavior, motivation and organizational communication.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Romeo E. Opis, Board Secretary of RTWPB MIMAROPA discussed the Productivity-Based Incentive Scheme which encourage the employer and workers to adopt a voluntary and negotiable agreement on gain-sharing program specifying the performance criteria, targets and measurements to be meet by workers in order for them to be given incentives. He also provides ways and techniques on improving customer service quality by building a pandemic proof customer relations service.
The LHP module is a component of Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) of DOLE which aims to increase awareness on workers and employers’ rights and responsibilities, work ethics, values and skills to contribute in fostering a more cooperative labor-management relations and the attainment of decent and productive work environment.
