The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Palawan Field Office conducted Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) to a total of 2,930 students from Palawan State University (PSU) and Western Philippines University (WPU) Puerto Princesa City Main Campuses on March 13-15, 2019. Those were held at their respective University Gymnasiums. The same program was also conducted at Holy Trinity University on 20 March 2019 participated by 95 graduating students.

LEGS is designed to guide “would-be workers” on their rights and responsibilities. It is a regular program of the Department that provides a venue for graduating students to gain insights as they enter into the world of work. Likewise, this program will prepare and develop students become responsible partners in establishing harmonious labor-management relationships towards attaining decent and productive work.

DOLE Palawan Field Office Head Mr. Luis B. Evangelista discussed Pre-employment tips/preparation, Employer and Workers’ Rights, Social Security Coverage, Health & Safety and Insurance (PHIC, SSS coverage), Anti-Illegal Recruitment, and Wage Order No. RB-MIMAROPA-09 the prevailing minimum wage of the Region to graduating students of WPU while Ms. Anna Dominique C. Magbanua, Labor and Employment Officer III, discussed the same information to students of PSU. After the activities, both also attended the Jobs Fair conducted by PSU at Robinson’s Place Palawan and WPU Aborlan University Gymnasium on 15 March 2019 participated in by various local establishments for their manpower requirements.
