To give them additional income and support their families, the Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA Region through Palawan Field Office awarded individual livelihood projects to three (3) beneficiaries last July 22, 2019 at DOLE Palawan Field Office. Mr. Luis B. Evangelista, Palawan Field Office Head, personally handed the purchased items to Mr. Elsid R. Sibiran, Ms. Erlinda T. Rupinta and Ms. Lydia C. Samson for their businesses. Mr. Sibiran received 10 sacks of rice amounting to Php20,000.00 for his Rice Trading business while Ms. Rupinta and Ms. Samson received grocery items amounting to 19,999.00 and 19,993.50 respectively, for their sari-sari store business.

Mr. Siriban is a 38-year old single parent with three children and lives in Wescom Road, Brgy. San Miguel, Puerto Princesa City and his business would allow him to earn for his family while taking care of them throughout the day. Meanwhile, Ms. Rupinta from Barangay Bagong Sikat of the same city is a 74-year-old beneficiary who needs additional capital for her small sari-sari store to fully support her family’s daily needs. Furthermore, Ms. Samson from Brgy. Sicsican, Puerto Princesa City is a 64-year old housewife who solely provides for her whole family. She is also a person with disability (PWD). Her sickly husband is unable to work and her family has no other source of income. The livelihood grants from DOLE would greatly help the daily source of income of the family of the above-mentioned beneficiaries.

Ms. Samson was very glad on the assistance provided to her family by the Department. “Sobrang laking pasasalamat ko sa ibinigay na pangkabuhayan sa akin ng DOLE dahil ito ay magbibigay ng karagdagang suporta upang mabuhay ko nang maayos ang aking pamilya… (I am really thankful to the livelihood grant given to me by DOLE because this would give additional support for me to be able to support my family)”, she said.

Mr. Siriban and Ms. Rupinta also promised that they will manage well the livelihood grant given to them by the department as this is an opportunity being granted to only few people.

After they received their respective livelihoods, they were shortly briefed on the policies and procedures on basic business management to ensure that they will be successful in their endeavors.
