PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN – On 28 January 2022, the Department of Labor and Employment – MIMAROPA thru its Palawan Field Office conducted a one-day labor education webinar via Zoom to one hundred six (106) participants composed of workers and employers of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Having a better understanding of labor standards, occupational safety and health standards, and the process of labor inspection will equip the establishments for the resumption of labor inspections this year. This webinar also helps those establishments in remote areas where labor inspections cannot reach because of the travel restrictions.

Several topics were discussed throughout the activity:

  1. General Labor Standards by Ms. Ma. Socorro U. Marquez, Sr. LEO;
  2. Penalties for Violations of R.A 11058, Labor Inspection Process Flow (D.O. 183-17) and D.O. 198-18 (OSH Law) by Engr. Rhea J. Paitan, Sr. LEO;
  3. Conciliation-Mediation (R.A 10396 and D.O. 151-16) by Dir. Francis A. Gonzalo, Jr. of the Regional Conciliation Mediation Board (RCMB) – MIMAROPA
  4. IATF Resolutions 148-B and 149 by Ms. Azenette Quiaoit-Solina, LEO III – FNLI; and
  5. DOLE Reportorial Requirements by Ms. Anna Dominique C. Magbanua, LEO III.

DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Ms. Naomi Lyn C. Abellana thanked the participants for allotting time for this webinar. She emphasized that this kind of webinar will give awareness to both employers and workers of their rights and responsibilities towards attaining industrial peace in the workplace.

The labor education webinar is a component of Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES) of DOLE which aims to increase awareness on workers and employers’ rights and responsibilities, work ethics, values, and skills to contribute in fostering a more cooperative labor-management relations and the attainment of decent and productive work environment.
