While students are now enjoying the summer vacation, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Occidental Mindoro Field Office encourages all students to make their vacation-break worthwhile by being part of the DOLE’s Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
This year, at least 498 students are expected to be employed by 12 employers, mostly Local Government Units throughout the province covering the period of April 2019 – May 2019. These students shall be receiving wages ranging PhP200.00 – PhP300.00/day and shall be engaged in office works, doing tasks such as answering phones, encoding, organizing and filing, while some doing purely make-work tasks, such as maintaining the orderliness of the office.
Instead of staying at home or spending their hours and days in beaches, travels and unproductive days, it would be best fit if they make their vacations productive yet would expose and even train them in the world of work plus the opportunity to earn in preparation for the upcoming school year.
SPES is DOLE’s youth employment-bridging program which aims to provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students, out-of-school youth, and dependents of displaced or would-be displaced workers during summer and/or Christmas vacation or any time of the year to augment the family’s income to help ensure that beneficiaries are able to pursue their education.
